COUPLE KILLED IN MOTOR ACCIDENT (PAGE 51, OCT 20, 2010)

A MAN and his wife died on the spot when a Man Diesel cargo truck on which they were travelling collided with a Renault articulated truck with registration number AS 1996 U on the Kumasi-Sunyani road.
The cargo truck, with registration number GW 8624 X, which was said to be carrying crates of eggs, was from Dormaa-Ahenkro heading towards Accra, while the articulated truck, loaded with mattresses, was from Kumasi.
The deceased persons were identified as Yaw Sakyi, who was the driver of the cargo truck, and his wife Vida Nkansah.
Their bodies have been deposited at the Sunyani Regional Hospital, while four others on board the articulated truck, comprising the driver, his mate and two women, are responding to treatment for injuries at the same hospital.
Briefing the Daily Graphic in Sunyani, the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander of the Motor Traffic Transport Unit (MTTU), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Wesley Paul Baah, said the accident occurred when the driver of the cargo truck swerved to avoid hitting a taxi-cab which stopped suddenly ahead of his vehicle.
In the process, the vehicle veered into the lane of the articulated truck, leading to the collision.
Mr Baah said investigations into the accident were still ongoing.
