A Palm wine tapper who inserted his fingers into the vagina of his 10-year-old daughter has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment by the Fiapre Circuit Court, near Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The convict, Tosu Amodu, who pleaded guilty to the offence of indecent assault contrary to section 103 (2b) of Act 29/60, was sentenced based on his own plea by the court presided over by Mr Justice Benjamin Osei Yaw.
Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kwaku Amoako, told the court that the complainant in the case was the wife of Amodu and they had six children, with the victim being the eldest.
DSP Amoako, who is also the Regional Co-ordinator of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU), told the court that Amodu had not been maintaining the complainant and their children so she left the house to do some work.
He said three months ago, the victim complained to her mother that her father, Amodu had been inserting his fingers into her private parts anytime she (the mother) was not in the house.
He said the victim again complained to the mother on October 5, 2010 that Amodu had not stopped inserting his fingers into her private parts.
The complainant, therefore, reported the case to the police at Tanoso and Amodu was arrested and handed over to the DOVVSU in Sunyani for further investigation.
The victim was sent to hospital by the police and the medical examination revealed that the victim had blood stains in her private part.
He said Amodu admitted in his caution statement to the police that he had inserted his fingers into the victim’s private part on many occasions.
DSP Amoako said after investigations Amodu was charged with the offence and was put before the court.
