PUBLISHING COMPANY DONATES TO BEREKUM GES (PAGE 20, MARCH 2, 2010)

ASANFAT Agencies, an Accra-based publishing and book selling company, has presented books valued at GH¢677.50 to the Berekum Municipal Education Directorate for distribution as prizes to winners of the municipal science and mathematics quiz competition for basic and senior high schools in the municipality.
The books, comprising Science, Mathematics, African Writers Series and some foreign writers, were given in response to an appeal made by the Municipal Education Directorate to publishing and book-selling companies for assistance.
Presenting the books at a ceremony at Berekum, Madam Asana Salifu, the Managing Director of  Asanfat Agencies, said her outfit decided to respond to the appeal to help enhance education, especially in the study of mathematics and science in the municipality.
She stated that the books, to be presented as prizes, would serve as a source of motivation to the students and pupils to learn hard and also promote the study of mathematics and science in the municipality.
Madam Salifu expressed hope that the quiz competition and the book prizes would help to demystify the study of mathematics and science to erase the notion held by many schoolchildren that science and mathematics were difficult subjects.
The Berekum District Director of Education, Mr Patrick K. Jimpetey-Djan, who received the books, said they would be given out as prizes to winners of the quiz competition during the 53rd Independence parade for schoolchildren on March 6, 2010 at Berekum.
He thanked the company for the gesture and appealed to other publishing and book-selling companies to assist the education directorate in its resolve to promote the study of science and mathematics in the municipality.
